About My Mountain Journal

Welcome to My Mountain Journal blog!

For quite a while now, I have been wanting to create a blog through which I can chronicle every aspect of my mountain adventures, for myself, for friends and family to follow along, and for anyone searching for information on certain hikes, gear, food, or hard lessons learned.

Sometimes I hike solo, and sometimes I hike with my partner in crime, Nicholas. This blog will encompass all of these adventures, and the occasional guest post from Mr. Nicholas.

I have lived in Colorado for two years now, and I have adored every second of it! Having come from southern Illinois, with a three year stop in Kansas, moving so close to the Rocky Mountains was life changing for me. I knew before I moved here that I was amped to experience and explore the mountains, but I didn't realize how hard and fast I would fall for their beauty, majesty, and strength, and the happiness, calmness, and empowerment that being among them would bring to my soul.

I started with a lot of day hiking, and it took about two of those little trips for me to realize that I desperately wanted to spend more time in the mountains than the typical day hike. I wanted to sleep under the stars, and venture further from my car than my feet could take me in one day. I wanted to see things that could only be seen by living in the wilderness for multiple days. I wanted to "earn that view."

If you've ever gone backpacking before, you probably know that the gear is not cheap (especially if you're looking to carry less than 45 pounds on your back and still have everything you need). It took quite a while to amass enough gear to even consider an overnight trip, and I embarked on one trip well before I had the gear I needed (discussed in the Four Pass Loop blog post from June 7, 2017).

Since then, I have acquired proper gear, and am ready to embark on adventures of greater proportions! I will use this blog to document these wanderings, from planning itineraries, to gear and meal prep, to the hike itself. I do not claim to be an experienced backpacker (as of yet), so the posts made here along the way will be as much a learning experience for me as anyone else! But that's how we improve, right?

I hope you enjoy this blog, and maybe find it entertaining or even useful at some point! Happy Hiking!
